January 3, 2023 - Stanislaus National Forest officials announce two fun programs this week.
Winter Nature Detectives
Thursday, January 5, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm; Pinecrest Community Hall
Have you ever wondered what animals do in the forest during the winter? Where do they hide during a storm? How do they find food? Join Forest Service rangers to learn how animals in the forest survive the winter. You will go for a tromp through the snow to look for tracks, scat, burrows, and other signs of life. Please bring water and wear weather-proof snow boots, a hat, snow pants, and snow. If you have binoculars or a hand lens, bring it along! All Ages. An adult must accompany children.
Junior Snow Ranger Club
Friday, January 6, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm; Summit Ranger Station
Calling all kids! Do you want to become a Junior Snow Ranger? We will talk about the science of snow, including how snowflakes are formed, how avalanches are caused, and what a snow ranger does! You can make your own snowshoes out of recycled materials and go for a scavenger hunt in the snow. You will be sworn in as a Junior Snow Ranger at the end of the program. All Ages. An adult must accompany children.
