Caltrans Reopens State Route 140 in Merced River Canyon
January 10, 2023 - MARIPOSA COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has reopened State Route 140 in the Merced River Canyon area of Mariposa County from approximately Colorado Road above Midpines to Yosemite Cedar Lodge in El Portal.
The section of highway was temporarily closed this morning due to multiple mudslides that made the road impassable.
Originally, the closure was expected to last 24 hours, maybe longer. Caltrans crews worked quickly and safely to remove mud and debris, and cleared drains for the safety of the traveling public.
More inclement weather is expected this week, and conditions can change without notice. Chains currently are required in the Sierra. Please drive safely.
