August 23, 2015 - CAL FIRE reports this morning over 11,500 firefighters are battling 15 active wildfires across California. A high pressure ridge will build over Northern California today and tomorrow. Warmer and drier conditions with lighter winds can be expected. The resulting increase in stability will mean that inversions persist longer in basins and canyons, and smoke that settles near active fires will be dense and not tend to lift up and drift out of the area. Strong high pressure over Southern California will bring above normal temperatures through Friday. Southeast flow aloft will bring isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly to the mountains and deserts of Southern California east of the Cajon Pass Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. The large fire threat will become elevated next week due to hot and dry conditions. Fuels are extremely dry and will be very susceptible to new ignitions.

CAL FIRE recommends that all residents be prepared for wildfire by remembering “Ready, Set, Go!” A family communication plan is essential for families in the event of a wildfire. Make sure that you have an out-of-area contact that you call to notify and have an evacuation plan in case you have to leave swiftly. Learn how to create a family communication plan at www.ReadyForWildfire.org.
