January 21, 2023 – The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office reported the following information. On December 16, 2022, Riverbank deputies responded to the 5900 block of Newbrook Circle for a stanislaus county sheriffs office logoreport of baby not breathing. Deputies located an 18-month-old not breathing. Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the boy to Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Due to the child's age, the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was activated. During a search of the home, detectives located narcotics, narcotics paraphernalia, and fentanyl.

The mother of the child, 25-year-old Maryanne Cazares, and the father, 31-year-old Tyler Jones, were interviewed at the Sheriff’s Office. During their interviews, both admitted to falling asleep while the boy played on the floor. Jones also admitted that before law enforcement arrived at the home, he hid drugs, paraphernalia, and fentanyl that were accessible to the child.

Cazares also has five-year-old daughter who was out of state at the time of the incident. Another agency conducted a security check on her, at which time drug paraphernalia was found in her belongings. She is now under the custody of other paternal family members.

An autopsy and toxicology were performed on the infant. The toxicology report stated the infant had a lethal amount of Fentanyl in his blood and gastric contents, deeming the cause of death Fentanyl overdose.

On January 19, 2023, Cazares was arrested at the Sheriff’s Office. Jones was located and arrested by MCU detective in the city of Oakdale. Both were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for the homicide of the 18-month-old and child abuse for the five-year-old being in possession of drug paraphernalia.
