High-Country Health Food and Cafe in Mariposa California

February 3, 2023 - SONORA, California – With several hundred individuals in attendance during an in-person firefighter hiring event in Fresno, California, the Stanislaus National Forest was able to firefighters credit nifcextend tentative offers to 42 applicants.

With tentative offers in hand, applicants will now complete the final portions of the application process where qualifications and backgrounds will be reviewed before a final, official offer of employment is made.

“Our recent, in-person hiring event was a rousing success,” said Stanislaus National Forest Fire Management Officer, Rebecca Johnson. “We were able to make tentative offers to more than 40 individuals who now will work through the full process to join our team. Those folks will go a long way toward helping us fill many of the gaps we had on our crews across the forest and brings us that much closer to where we want to be on the staffing front.”

Johnson noted this event was the first of its kind with human resources staff on hand to help process applications and make tentative offers to applications. In addition, representatives from California forest’s were on hand to help answer questions and assist people through the application process.

“We’re going to go back and evaluate what went well and what we could do better with this event, but I think this will become a strong tool in our hiring toolbox moving forward,” Johnson said.

The Forest Service will hold another in-person hiring in Redding, CA February 14-15, 2023, at the Red Lion Hotel 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (PST). Applicants are invited to come and meet regional fire staff, get application help, learn about the benefits of working for the Forest Service, and may leave with a tentative offer.
