February 9, 2023 - Merced – Merced Police Department officials report on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at approximately 9:41 A.M., Angel Saavedra Barraza, 32, of Merced was arrested for the murder of Aaron Albert Jimenez.
Barraza was taken into custody without incident after detectives located him during the service of a search warrant in Newman.
On December 11, 2022, at approximately 7:42 P.M., Merced Police responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Olympia Court in Merced for a gunshot victim. Officers located Jimenez who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, and Jimenez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives determined Jimenez was shot a few blocks away from where he died. Barraza shot Jimenez at close range with an air rifle and immediately fled from the area in a vehicle.The Merced Police
