February 14, 2023 – The Placer County Sheriff's Office reported that a deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle early Saturday morning and conducted a traffic stop. Both the wanted suspect, 31-year-old Gavin Rasmussen of Auburn, and the passenger, 30-year-old Christian Harrison of Auburn, were detained while deputies searched them and the vehicle.
A search of Harrison’s person revealed a glass smoking pipe and a small plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle revealed a metal cylinder that appeared to be a firearm suppressor/silencer. The investigation led deputies to obtain a search warrant for Harrison’s motorhome, which revealed two non-serialized AR-15 rifles, a loaded non-serialized handgun, multiple loaded and unloaded rifles and pistol caliber magazines that can accept over ten rounds, and multiple sets of rifle and pistol-rated ballistic body armor.
Deputies also found ammunition and additional equipment used to manufacture AR-15-type lower receivers. Harriston was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a silencer, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, possession of body armor, and additional related charges. Rasmussen was arrested for possession of a silencer, committing a crime while out on post-release community supervision, and other related charges.
