to the Sierra Nevada mountains and foothills, where snow levels
could drop as low as 1000ft. This will cause high temperatures to
drop to the mid to low 50's in the Valley. There is also the
possibility low temperatures may become freezing or subfreezing by
next weekend.

.DISCUSSION...
Central California remains between an isolated trough off the west
coast and the main flow. This has kept dry air coming into our
area, causing clear, calm weather. The trough off the coast will
continue to move southwest and move back into the main flow by
Wednesday. By then, another trough from the main flow will dive
down into our CWA.

The upper level trough will bring rain and snow chances for the
area. Most of the precipitation will be concentrated in the Sierra
Nevada mountains and the foothills, but there may also be
rainfall in the east valley. The snow levels may drop to as low as
1000ft and could effect the cities of Mariposa and Oakhurst,
which may receive 3-4 inches and 4-6 inches of snow respectively.
The I-5 and Highway 58 passes are likely to receive snowfall as
well, which would impact travel. The precipitation will start on
Tuesday and Wednesday, and is likely to continue into Thursday and
Friday.

Here is the latest NBM probabilities for 1 inch or more of
snowfall for some of our foothill and mountain locations from
February 22nd at 4 PM to February 24th at 4 PM.

Wawona: 90%
North Fork: 88%
Oakhurst: 88%
El Portal: 86%
Mariposa: 86%
Tehachapi: 60%
Fort Tejon: 42%

Precipitation chances are highest on Wednesday, with the majority
falling that day. Chances continue into Thursday and Friday and
are likely to drop off next weekend. this may also bring freezing
temperatures back to the valley.
