March 5, 2023 - WASHINGTON - Congressman Jim Costa (CA-21) announced a $7.1 million federal grant for the Fresno Yosemite International Airport to expand its terminal and an additional $4.4 million to improve its primary runaway. This brings a combined $16.1 million federal investment that Costa has secured for one of the fastest-growing airports in California and nationwide.

“Fresno-Yosemite International Airport is one of the fastest-growing airports in the country, with historic passenger growth and air travel demand,” said Costa. “These federal investments will help fund the airport’s expansion, create good-paying jobs, and boost our economic growth, as part of an ongoing effort that I am engaged with the City of Fresno to improve air service for the public. I was proud to support the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It’s through investments like this that we can ensure that all travelers flying to and from the San Joaquin Valley have an easier, safer journey to their destination.”

“As a result of the amazing support from Congressman Jim Costa in securing federal funding for Airport Terminal Programs and community projects, Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) was awarded $7.1 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for a major terminal expansion project and $4.4 million in Community Project Funding for runway improvements,” said Director of Aviation Henry Thompson.  “These significant funding investments moves us closer to constructing a modern and expanded terminal facility, which will provide California’s Central Valley travelers with a higher level of service as well as help to rebuild critical infrastructure on the Airport’s airfield. “With Congressman Costa’s support, successful completion of these projects positions the Airport to meet the travel needs of valley residents; supports improved air service; and has a positive economic impact for the community and region.”

On November 15, 2021, President Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) into law, which invests $15 billion in formula funding to help redevelop airports across the country. The following December, Costa and local leaders announced $4.6 million through the IIJA for improvements towards the airport’s taxiway, terminal development, and noise prevention.

Costa just secured $4.4 million through the Community Funding Project (CFP) as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 budget to improve the airport’s primary runway, which is used for daily commercial flights, transportation of goods, wildfire suppression, and homeland security.

Fresno Yosemite-International Airport will continue to grow with a $7.1 million federal grant through the IIJA, which will be used to build a new terminal concourse that will feature two international and domestic passenger bridges as part of the FAT Forward plan, a terminal expansion project estimated to bring an $85 million local economic impact.
