March 19, 2023 - Madera County officials report on condition of roads in the county due to flooding from recent storms.
Madera County Public Works Department says to beware of potholes and damaged roads, and report them!
The vexing thing about potholes is that they are most likely to appear during the time of year when they are nearly impossible to fix. Repair materials do not bond well, if at all, when it's cold and wet.
The record snow and rain in the mountain communities and the valley has taken a tremendous toll on County roads, so many roads are showing signs of damage with new cracks and potholes. In some cases, these damages will not be visible until after snow has fully thawed and melted away.
Public Works crews are continuing to assess road damage and will begin making repairs as soon as possible after the roads dry out. In the case of imminent threat to the public, damages may be temporarily fixed or roads closed to traffic as needed.
Until permanent repairs can be made, motorists are encouraged to drive with caution, watch the road, keep in mind a shallow-looking puddle can actually be a deep puddle, and report potholes and other road issues by using the online Service Request at https://www.maderacounty.com/.../public.../service-request , through the MadcoServices app for your mobile device, or by calling 311 to report issues.
