March 26, 2023 - Merced Police Department officials report that on March 25, 2023, at 3:30 P.M., a Merced Police Department Traffic Officer initiated at traffic stop for a moving violation. The vehicle was occupied by multiple people and stopped in the parking lot of a shopping center at the corner of West Olive Ave. and M Street. Multiple subjects began to get out of the vehicle. The officer discharged one round from his firearm. No one was hit. The subjects fled on foot and two subjects were detained by responding officers. The vehicle fled the scene and officers were unable to locate it.

The incident is still under investigation.
