April 14, 2023 - WASHINGTON, DC - On Thursday, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) issued the following statement pertaining to Senator Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) continued service in the U.S. Senate:
“Senator Feinstein continues to serve California and America honorably and courageously,” Garamendi said. “As Mayor of San Francisco, she championed historic gun safety legislation, instituted game-changing economic and social policies for the city, and signed the first rent control policy in San Francisco’s history into law. She then took her courage and tenacity with her to the U.S. Senate, where she enacted the federal assault weapons ban of 1994 into law, authored the most impactful protections for public lands and natural resources in U.S. history, and works every day on the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance civil rights and create a more just and equitable society.
“Senator Feinstein is working every day to return to Washington to carry out her final term in the U.S. Senate,” Garamendi continued. “During her recovery from shingles, Senator Feinstein has called for her position on the Judiciary Committee to be temporarily filled to ensure judicial confirmations can be processed in a timely manner. I both respect and support her decision, and I do not believe it is necessary for Senator Feinstein to resign.
“Senator Feinstein exemplifies every quality we should expect from elected officials. She is a steward of progress and a champion for her constituents. I strongly believe that Senator Feinstein deserves our respect and the opportunity to complete her final term in the U.S. Senate,” Garamendiconcluded.
