April 20, 2023 - Merced, CA – Merced Police Department officials report that Cody Monk (33) was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and other charges near Raley’s in north Merced.
On April 19, 2023, at 8:46 A.M., Officer Fister located an occupied stolen motor vehicle in a residential area north of Merced High School. He recognized the driver as Cody Monk. Monk got away from officers and drove recklessly through retail parking lots in the area.
Monk abandoned the vehicle in the Raley’s parking lot and fled across the street into the Yosemite Crossing shopping center. Witnesses called in and provided an accurate description of his clothing and direction of travel.
Officers located Monk as he casually walked away from the area after he altered his appearance.
Monk’s arrest was accomplished by the overwhelming amount of support provided by concerned citizens.
The Merced Police Department would like to thank all the members of the public that contributed in the apprehension of Cody Monk.
Monk was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle & burglary tools, reckless driving, false identification to a peace officer, and two felony warrants. He was booked into custody at the Merced County Jail.
