April 23, 2023 - Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Ethan Lopez and 24-year-old Sage Martinez, both of Orange Cove. They have been booked into the Fresno County Jail on murder charges and both have bail amounts of $3 million.
Around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3rd, Orange Cove Police officers were dispatched to a call of shots near the intersection of J and 10th Streets. Upon arrival, officers found two young men inside a car who had been shot. EMS personnel immediately transported both to the hospital. 18-year-old Ruben Velazquez of Orange Cove died as a result of his injuries. The other young man, a 17-year-old, was later released from the hospital.
Detectives determined this was a targeted shooting, not a random act.
