April 26, 2023 - Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report on drowning at Bass Lake.  

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Monday April 24, 2023, the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center was notified of a possible drowning at the Lupine Campground Day Use area of Bass Lake.

Immediately, Madera County Sheriff's Office Deputies along with the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Dive Team and the Boat Patrol Unit responded the area to search for the 31-year-old male. According to witnesses, the man entered the water to retrieve their rented boat which had drifted away from the shoreline.

Despite extensive search operations, the victim was not located. Search efforts resumed early Tuesday morning, with additional searchers and equipment from the Fresno and Tulare County Sheriff’s Offices.

With heavy hearts, we confirm the victim has been recovered from the water. His identity will not be released at this time. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and loved ones.
