Senator Highlights the Fact that No Republicans Voted for the Deal Despite Strong Support from Some of the Most Respected GOP Foreign Policy Leaders

September 11, 2015 - Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), the longest serving current member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement today on the debate over the Barbara BoxerIran nuclear agreement in Congress:

"Not a single Senate Republican voted in favor of this agreement despite the strong support of some of the most respected GOP foreign policy leaders like Richard Lugar, John Warner, Brent Scowcroft and Colin Powell. The Republican charge that Democrats voted in a partisan manner is belied by the fact that several Democrats joined Republicans in opposing the deal, while not one Republican joined Democrats in supporting it. Clearly, partisanship lies on the Republican side of the aisle and that is shocking given the strong Republican support outside the Senate.

"Perhaps when the roll is called again on the deal next week, Republicans will understand there is no place for partisanship when it comes to foreign policy."

Senator Boxer is the author of the last two U.S.-Israel security bills - the United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012 and the U.S.-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2014 - which were both signed into law by President Obama.
