September 12, 2015 - Some facilities and services in the parks have been affected by the Rough Fire, which started due to a lightning strike in late July. This fire is located in Kings Canyon National Park and in the nearby Sequoia and Sierra national forests.

Sequoia National Park is open.

The road between Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is closed.

You cannot drive into Kings Canyon National Park at this time. The Grant Grove and Cedar Grove areas are closed and have been evacuated.

Campgrounds and lodges in Kings Canyon National Park are closed until further notice.

Highway 180 is closed approximately 12 miles from the entrance to Kings Canyon National Park at Dunlap Road in Dunlap, CA. Additional closures are in place in the area, including along Highway 180 at the entrance to Kings Canyon National Park.

In open areas of the parks, air quality may be moderate to very unhealthy at times due to the Rough Fire. When air quality is very unhealthy, everyone should avoid any outdoor exertion. People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should remain indoors.

For more information, stop at any one of three visitor centers inside Sequoia National Park, call 559-565-3341, or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/seki.
