May 3, 2023 - Merced – Merced Police Department officials report that Jose Luis Nava (26) was arrested for an armed robbery that occurred at Chase Bank.
On May 1, 2023, at 7:09 A.M., officers to Chase Bank at 800 W. Olive Avenue for an armed robbery that just occurred at the walk-up ATM. Nava pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded cash. The victim complied and Nava fled on a bicycle down Olivewood Drive. A description of Nava was provided to officers that responded to the call.
At 7:11 A.M., Sergeant Brian Rinder saw a bicyclist matching Nava’s description headed south on M Street. Nava fled from officers and was apprehended near the 2500 block of K Street.
During Nava’s apprehension, a black firearm was removed from his pants. It was later determined to be a BB gun.
Nava was positively identified as the suspect. He was booked into custody at the Merced County Jail for armed robbery. The victim’s money was recovered at the jail. It was hidden inside Nava’s underwear.
