Senator Rosen Has Consistently Opposed Efforts By Democrats and Republicans That Would Harm American Solar Jobs In Nevada & Nationwide

May 4, 2023 - WASHINGTON, DC – On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) issued the following statement after she helped to successfully prevent a veto-proof majority in the Senate by securing bipartisan opposition to a Congressional Review Act resolution rolling back a two-year pause on retroactive tariffs on solar panels and cells. President Biden has announced he will veto this resolution, and thanks to Senator Rosen’s efforts, Congress will not override the veto. It is estimated that these tariffs would have eliminated 30,000 American jobs, including 4,000 jobs in manufacturing.

“Since the beginning, I’ve stood up to efforts on both sides of the aisle to impose retroactive solar tariffs that would have a devastating effect on jobs and workers in my state of Nevada,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m glad we successfully kept the vote well below a veto-proof majority, ensuring that President Biden’s veto will squash these attempts to enact job-killing solar tariffs. This will help us maintain the two-year bridge to expand our domestic solar manufacturing base while protecting American solar projects and hundreds of thousands of American workers. I will always fight for the thousands of solar jobs and workers in Nevada who are building out our clean energy future.”

Senator Rosen has led the effort to oppose retroactive solar tariffs. Last year, she led a bipartisan group of her colleagues in urging the Administration to quickly conclude its investigation into imported solar panels and cells. At the time, even the mere threat of new and retroactive solar tariffs was having a devastating effect on the U.S. solar industry, the clean energy economy, and efforts to combat climate change. Rosen followed up on that effort by leading the charge to secure the two-year tariff pause this resolution would overturn.
