May 12, 2023 - The Mariposa County Arts Council's Music on the Green returns to the Art Park this year for a full season of live music starting on June 2!
On Friday, June 2, the opening night of the 2023 season features The Terry Barnes Trio. From her debut at Music on the Green last summer, it was evident that Terry has a natural charismatic stage presence and quickly had the audience in her pocket.
The Terry Barnes Trio to perform on Friday, June 2
The Terry Barnes Trio has been playing their acoustic folk-rock tunes around the Central Valley since 2017. Terry Barnes is a lifelong guitarist and singer, drawing inspiration from folk-rock singer songwriters from the 60’s, 70’s, & beyond. Steve Barnes brings a unique approach to percussion, incorporating bongos into his drum kit, & Dennis Wombacher is an accomplished violinist who consistently wows audiences with his beautiful melodic accompaniment to the soulful interpretations of folk-rock favorites.
The James Lee Cult Revival to perform on Saturday, June 3
On Saturday, June 3, The James Lee Cult Revival will make their Music on the Green debut with their new lineup. Performing the original music of local singer songwriter J. Rymer, the JLCR boasts an all-star band and is creating quite a buzz. Featuring Jon Kidd on drums, Harley Minford on lead guitar, Jared Jesperson on keyboard, and Jeremy Clark on bass. This band is sure to rock!
All performances begin at 7:00 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) at the Mariposa County Art Park (5013 Hwy 140) in historic downtown Mariposa, CA. Parking is available along 4th and 5th Street. The lower 5th Street parking lot provides an accessible pedestrian path to the Art Park through the Mariposa Creek Parkway entry. Tips for the performers will be solicited, encouraged, and appreciated. A complete schedule of the talent performing throughout this summer season can be found at www.mariposaartscouncil.org/music-on-the-green; weekly updates will be shared on the Mariposa Arts Council’s Facebook and Instagram pages (@MariposaArts).
Original digital artwork for this program, “Dusk”, was created by our 2023 Music on the Green Student Artist, Liam Wilis, a sophomore at Mariposa County High School. He says, “My [Music on the Green] artwork is based on a photo I took outside of my house. I wanted it to feel distinctly Mariposa with the blue oak and dry grass hills – solitary and captivating with a colorful calm.“ To connect with Liam regarding creative projects, please contact Daisy at phillips@mariposaartscouncil.org to be put in touch.
This Student Artist initiative provides youth with a creative project opportunity with mentorship from Arts Council staff. Each year, student artwork is used on all Music on the Green marketing material and shared across the Arts Council’s wide-reaching platforms, intended to advance young artists’ professional experience and position them for entrepreneurial engagement within their community.
