Homicide Investigation 

May 18, 2023 - Fresno Police Department officials report that on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10:07 P.M., officers from the Northeast Policing District responded to the 4500 block of East Dakota Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim at the location. Officers arrived and found 56-year-old Michael Brady on the ground in front of the location, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) and pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.

Officers at the scene quickly learned that 79-year-old Ira Lewis was seen walking away from the shooting scene and entering his residence, which is directly behind Mr. Brady’s residence. Officers detained Mr. Lewis pending homicide detective’s arrival.

Through their investigation, detectives learned that Mr. Lewis is Mr. Brady’s landlord, and the two have had an ongoing dispute over unpaid rent. Just before the shooting, Mr. Brady and Mr. Lewis engaged in an argument in the front yard. During this confrontation, Mr. Lewis shot Mr. Brady multiple times in the upper body. During a search of Mr. Lewis’s residence, officers and detectives located a firearm.

Mr. Lewis was booked into the Fresno County Jail for PC 187(a) – Murder.
