September 19, 2015 - CAL FIRE reports this morning nearly 11,000 firefighters are battling 8 large fires across California. In Northern California, warmer and drier weather through the weekend with light offshore flow CAL FIREcontinues. In Southern California, a warming trend is moving in and will produce weak offshore winds that will allow temperatures to climb and humidity to drop.

CAL FIRE recommends that all residents be prepared for wildfire by remembering “Ready, Set, Go!” Part of “Ready” is creating defensible space, which is essential in improving your home’s chance of surviving a wildfire. It’s the buffer you create between a building on your property and the grass, trees, shrubs, or any wildland area that surround it. This space is needed to slow or stop the spread of wildfire and it protects your home from catching fire – either from direct flame contact, radiant heat, or flying embers. Defensible space is also important for the protection of the firefighters defending your home. If you haven’t cleared your home, be careful when using powered equipment as it could start a wildfire. Always mow or trim grass before 10 a.m. on a day when it’s not hot and windy and never on a Red Flag Warning Day. Spark arresters are required in wildland areas on all portable gasoline powered equipment. To learn more about being prepared for wildfire visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org.
