June 10, 2023 - National Weather Service Hanford Office reports a few strong thunderstorms are possible across much of our area from 12:00 P.M. this afternoon through this evening.

Small hail and wind gusts near 45 miles per hour are a couple of hazards associated with strong thunderstorms.

In addition to dangerous cloud to ground lightning strikes, any thunderstorm can produce intense rainfall rates, leading to localized flooding.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Hanford CA

.SYNOPSIS...
Shower and thunderstorm chances increase over the weekend and
include the San Joaquin Valley and desert areas. The threat of
thunderstorms is confined to just the Sierra again on Monday and
gradually decreases through the week. High temperatures will cool
a few degrees this weekend then trend warmer next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
A closed low will slowly drift southward along the coast through
the day bringing increased cloudiness and cooler temperatures for
the region. With the added moisture and instability, showers and
thunderstorm chances will increase Saturday afternoon. By Sunday,
this low is forecast to shift into southern California with a
fairly similar setup as we saw a few days back when we saw some
fairly strong thunderstorms push through the region even in our
lower valleys. Anomalous moisture and instability are still on the
table for Sunday which all leads to more widespread shower and
thunderstorms, including in the valley and desert regions. A few
strong storms can be expected with hail and strong winds.

This closed low will push eastward as the week moves forward, but
chances of showers and thunderstorms will remain each afternoon
and evening, especially for the Sierra Nevada zones. Temperatures
will start to trend back towards seasonal norm by mid-week with
near normal by the start of next weekend.

&&

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions will prevail through at least the next 24 hours.
MVFR or lower conditions are likely in and near any thunderstorm
over the Sierra Nevada this afternoon and this evening.
