September 21, 2015 - Come one, come all! Join us Thursday, October 1st as we commemorate Yosemite National Park's 125th Anniversary!
We’ll honor this special anniversary with a ceremony that will honor the park’s rich history, highlight current park stewardship, and look ahead to the future of Yosemite National Park. The event will include special guests, music, giveaways, and birthday cake! You can also bring a small Yosemite token to contribute to our time-capsule.
The ceremony will be held outside of the Valley Visitor Center on October 1st, 11 am-12 pm.
Our park partners are also helping us commemorate the special day with special programs which are open to all community members and visitors:
Yosemite Conservancy: Free Theater Performance
- John Muir Celebrates Yosemite’s Birthday. Join John Muir, performed by Lee Stetson, on Thursday October 1st at 7:00pm in the Yosemite Theater for a special FREE performance to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Yosemite National Park. Experience some of his most astonishing wilderness adventures, and enjoy his intense and enduring love of these mountains as he recalls just how and why Yosemite was created – and how the National Park idea was born.
Delaware North: 125th Anniversary Themed Naturalist Stroll and Evening Program
- The Naturalist Stroll (6pm, 1hr, Ahwahnee back lawn) will explore the physical and cultural landscape in 1890 that led to national park protection 125 years ago.
- The Evening Program (8pm, 1 hr, Yosemite Lodge Amphitheater) will feature Yosemite National Park's Quasquicentennial (125 years)! We’ll share the passion of those that fought for Yosemite in 1890.
Sierra Club Le Conte Memorial Lodge: Full Day of Activities
- Le Conte will stay open for the season through October 1st. There will be special 125th Anniversary activities throughout the day, including a birthday card for visitors to sign.
NatureBridge: Engaging Future Generations
- NatureBridge will be hosting 300+ students in the park during the 125th Anniversary week and will be doing what they do best - engaging the future generations of park stewards!
