Firearm, Vehicle Pursuit and Warrant Arrest
June 17, 2023 – Merced – Merced Police Department officials report that on June 16, 2023, at approximately 7:30 P.M., the Merced Police Departments Gang Violence Suppression Unit arrested a Merced man for warrants and possession of a firearm after a short vehicle pursuit.
On June 16, 2023, Merced PD Gang Unit Officer Centeno attempted to stop a vehicle at 11th Street and I Street for several vehicle code violations. The vehicle sped off East on 11th Street. The vehicle ran a stop sign at G Street and hit a parked vehicle.
The driver who was identified as Nicholas Osborne (30) fled from the vehicle on foot. As officers were chasing Osborne a good Samaritan stopped Osborne as he was running by him. Osborne was arrested without further incident.
Officers located a loaded 9mm handgun in the vehicle with an extended magazine. Osborne, a known gang member had several warrants for his arrest from Merced County Probation. Osborne was booked into Merced County Jail for his warrants, firearms related charges and for attempting to evade police.
