June 30, 2023 - Yosemite National Park officials ask the public to help us help you have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day weekend by following these tips:

nps630-It's going to be hot! Be sure you are bringing (and consuming) enough water and salty snacks. A minimum of one quart/liter of water every two hours is recommended.

-River levels will be very high once again. Even calm water is deceptively powerful. Please do not enter the water this weekend in Yosemite. Instead, take a waterfall-adjacent hike and enjoy the cool mist

-Fireworks are strictly prohibited in the park, and we have entered fire season. Help prevent human-caused fires by making sure campfires are completely extinguished.

-Know your hike and your limits! Be prepared for the mileage and elevation change of any hikes you are planning to do, as well as the comfort and ability levels of all members of your group. Take regular breaks in the shade and don't hesitate to turn around if you have bitten off more than you can chew.

-For backpackers: do not arrive at Yosemite expecting to get a walk-up wilderness permit.

-And… traffic. Arrive early! Early means being in the park and finding a a parking spot by 8 am. To receive text alerts about current traffic conditions, text ynptraffic to 333111. Expect multiple delays of two or more hours and closure of east Yosemite Valley (past El Capitan) when parking fills.
