July 1, 2023 - National Weather Service Hanford Office officials report dangerous heat will affect the San Joaquin Valley, Coastal Range, Sierra foothills, Yosemite Valley, Kern River Valley, and Kern County desert areas this weekend.

Heat related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible for much of the population if precautions are not taken.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Hanford CA
130 AM PDT Sat Jul 1 2023

.SYNOPSIS...A heatwave will continue to impact much of our
forecast area through the weekend and into the early portion of
next week, with multiple days of widespread triple digit high
temperatures expected. Due to this, an Excessive Heat Warning is
out for the San Joaquin Valley, Coastal Range, and Kern County
Desert areas through Sunday. A Heat Advisory is out for the high
foothills of the Sierra Nevada and the Kern County mountains
through Sunday.

&&

DISCUSSION...A large upper ridge of high pressure centered over
central CA will remain dominant across our area through the
weekend and provide the area with the first noticable heatwave of
the season. Daytime highs will be 12 to 16 DEG F above
climatological normals and might approach daily records at a few
locations today and Sunday. Latest NBM probabilistic guidance is
indicating most of the San Joaquin Valley has a 25 to 50 percent
chance of reaching 110 DEG F today and a 20 to 45 percent chance
of reaching 110 DEG F on Sunday.

The ridge is progged to shift east on Monday and Independence Day
which will allow for a cooling trend to take place although
temperatures will remain above normal and widespread triple digit
highs are expected in the San Joaquin Valley, West Side Hills and
lower Sierra foothills on Independence Day.

Medium range ensemble members are in good agreement with the
ridge being centered over the Desert Southwest region and an upper
trough slowly deepening near 135W for the second half of next
week. This in turn will produce an onshore southwest to west flow
over our area. Temperatures are progged to trend downward each
day with daytime highs finally lowering to near climatological
normals by the end of next week. RH progs are showing the airmass
over our area will remain dry through the end of next week.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR conditions will prevail across the Central CA
interior through at least the next 24 hours.

&&

.AIR QUALITY ISSUES...None.

&&

.CERTAINTY...

The level of certainty for days 1 and 2 is high.
The level of certainty for days 3 through 7 is medium.

Certainty levels include low...medium...and high. Please visit
