July 4, 2023 – Merced Police Department officials report that the Fourth of July is upon us, Merced PD & K9 Sam want to remind everyone with pets to make sure they are safe! Now is the time to prepare your pets for the inevitable fireworks that will be happening.

Here are a few tips:

Keep your pets inside in a safe place. Check your yard and fencing to make sure there are no escape routes. Check the gate latched to ensure they can’t be opened accidentally.

If you won’t be home, keep a radio on with soft music and their favorite toy.

Make sure your pet has their collar ID tags with updated contact information.

Human foods like onions and grapes are toxic to dogs – please make sure your pet does not have access to toxic foods.
