Fresno Homicide Investigation

July 12, 2023 - Fresno Police Department officials report that on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 1:22 p.m., Southeast Policing District officers responded to the 4900 block of East Balch Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found 27-year-old Anissia Martinez suffering from a single gunshot wound. Officers learned Martinez was shot by her boyfriend, 22-year-old Rosalino Mendoza-Hernandez, who was taken into custody as he attempted to run from the scene. Martinez was rushed to Community Medical Center, where she was listed in critical but stable condition.

Detectives learned Martinez and Mendoza-Hernandez have been in a relationship since the beginning of 2023. During a search of the scene, detectives recovered a handgun they believe was used in the shooting. Mendoza-Hernandez, a gang member and on felony probation for being an ex-felon in possession of a handgun, was arrested for Attempted Murder and multiple weapons violations.

Then on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 5:04 p.m., Martinez was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. Mendoza-Hernandez’s charges will be upgraded to Murder. Although an arrest has been made, detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Fresno Police Department.

Anyone calling with information can remain completely anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867). You may also contact Fresno Police Department – Homicide Detective S. Gray at 559-621-2451.
