Defendants in Auburn K9 Animal Cruelty Case Arraigned; Case Against the Fraudulent Dog Training Company Moving Forward to Potential Jury Trail

July 13, 2023 - Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report that this morning, defendants Antoine Deshaun Moore and Sean Lee Murray were arraigned on additional information for multiple charges of animal cruelty, theft by false pretenses, grand theft of a dog, and more regarding the operation of their business, Auburn K9, a local fraudulent dog training company in Auburn. The information resulted in 15 felony criminal charges as well as listing factors of aggravation which allege the crime involved great viciousness or callousness, the victims were particularly vulnerable, the offenses carried out showed a level of criminal sophistication and asserted that Moore is a serious danger to society.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office investigated this case in the Spring of 2022, and it was found that Moore and his business partner, Murray, made clients believe they were paying Auburn K9 to provide boarding and training services for their dogs, only to leave them in dire conditions without training and extreme neglect. The information alleges eight separate dog victims who either sustained injuries, disease, infection, severe behavioral problems or were never returned to their owners. In April 2022, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office arrested Moore for felony theft by false pretenses. Moore was bailed out of jail and returned to court in August 2022 on multiple felony charges. Both Defendants Moore and Murray were arraigned in September 2022. A three-day preliminary hearing took place in February, where a judge found there was enough evidence to hold Moore and Murray to answer for felonies relating to all seven victims who testified at the hearing. While Moore was out on bail in this case, he was arrested for a DUI in Auburn. The People are now able to proceed to a jury trial on the charges alleged in the information. We thank the Placer County District Attorney’s Office for their support in holding these two defendants accountable for their actions.

The defendants will return to court on September 13th at 8:30 a.m. in Department 32.
