Excessive Heat Warning Includes Mariposa, Oakhurst and Yosemite Valley
July 17, 2023 - National Weather Service Hanford Office oficials report dangerous heat in most of Central California today will result in a major risk for heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those who are heat sensitive and those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.
Heat-related impacts are possible if simple precautions are not taken. Plan to take action to reduce time outdoors, stay hydrated, and remain in air-conditioned buildings.
As always, never, ever leave a child or pet in an enclosed automobile.

Maximum temperatures 104 to 109 degrees in the San Joaquin Valley and Coastal Range. High temperatures 102 to 107 degrees in the Lower Sierra foothills, Yosemite Valley, and Kern River Valley. * WHERE...Most of the Central California interior. * WHEN...Until 8 PM PDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Dangerous heat will result in a major to extreme risk for heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those who are heat sensitive and those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
