Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Route 99 

July 21, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 99 for maintenance and caltrans logoconstruction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows;

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through September 30, 2023.

          o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

  • Overnight, full on and off-ramp closures on northbound and southbound SR-99 at Childs Avenue for construction beginning Sunday, July 23, through Friday, July 28, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound and southbound SR-99 at SR140/East for construction beginning Sunday, July 23, through Friday, July 28, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
  • Overnight full on and off-ramp closures on northbound and southbound SR-99 at 16th Street for construction from Sunday, July 23, through Friday, July 28, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

  • One-way traffic control from Westside Blvd./Central Ave to southbound SR-99 for guardrail work beginning Sunday, July 23, through Friday, July 28, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full overnight on and off-ramp closure from southbound SR-99 at Peach Avenue for guardrail work beginning Sunday, July 23, through Friday, July 28, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Peach Ave./Sultana Dr. to southbound SR-99 for guardrail work beginning Sunday, July 23, through Friday, July 28, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5- to 10-minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
