July 31, 2023 - Yosemite National Park officials issue heat warning for guests visiting the park with their pets.
Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog! Temperatures are getting very hot in Yosemite and we have to look out for one another and our four-legged companions.
Our protection rangers have recently responded to several incidents involving dogs with blistered paws and/or symptoms of overheating.
The only hot dogs we want to see this summer are those covered in ketchup and mustard, so please never leave dogs alone in cars, and avoid activity in the middle of the day when it’s the hottest. If you are feeling too hot, it is definitely also too hot for your dog to be out. Simply placing your palm on the ground before walking your dog can be a good gauge of whether it is safe for them.
A decision to carry your pup, walk on boardwalks instead of asphalt, or end an activity early, to rehydrate, could save your furry friend a lot of discomfort this sunny summer.
