August 2, 2023 - Fresno Police Department officials report that on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 6:44 p.m., officers from the Northwest Policing District responded to a report of a victim of a shooting in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter, located at 4080 West Shaw Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old male inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to CRMC and is currently listed in stable condition.

Officers also responded to a report of a traffic collision in the 4100 block of North Brawley Avenue involving a sedan and a small SUV. When officers arrived, they found the sedan to be occupied by five adults. The female adult driver, identified as 66-year-old Mary Lou Flores, received major internal injuries, and was rushed to CRMC for medical treatment. Flores was unable to survive her wounds and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other occupants of the sedan received moderate injuries and were also transported to CRMC, where they were listed in stable condition. Officers discovered the occupants of the SUV had run from the scene of the accident before officers arrived and are currently outstanding.

Detectives have learned that the vehicle driven by Flores and the vehicle occupied by the shooting victim were both travelling southbound Brawley Avenue towards Shaw Avenue when shots were fired from the occupants of the SUV. One of the gunshots struck the 24-year-old male victim in his upper body. The driver of the SUV proceeded to chase Flores’ vehicle southbound Brawley Avenue at a high rate of speed. During the chase, both Flores’ vehicle and the SUV collided with each other, causing injuries to Flores and the other occupants of her vehicle.

Detectives believe this to be an isolated incident stemming from a prior disturbance involving all parties. Detectives are currently canvassing for video footage from nearby businesses and are asking anyone with information ono this case to contact the Fresno Police Department.
