TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 33 & 99 

August 4, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 99 (SR-99) and SR-165 for caltrans logomaintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows;

Interstate 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through September 30, 2023.

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

State Route 99

  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 Childs Avenue off-ramp for construction through August 13, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 State Route 140/East on-ramp for construction through August 13, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 G Street Under-Crossing on-ramp for construction through November 30, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 State Route 59/MLK Way on-ramp for construction through August 15, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 R Street Under-Crossing on-ramp for construction through August 13, 2023.

  • One-way traffic control from Peach Ave./Sultana Dr. to SR-99 for guardrail work beginning Sunday, August 6, through Friday, August 11, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full on-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Shanks Road Over-Crossing for pavement work beginning Sunday, August 6, through Friday, August 11, 2023, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

State Route 165

  • One-way traffic control from Pole Line Road to Delta Mendota Canal Bridge for grinding and paving work beginning Monday, August 6, through Friday, August 11, 2023, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5- 10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
