August 5, 2023 - Inyo County Search & Rescue officials report that in the afternoon of Thursday, July 27, Inyo SAR received a call-out for a woman with chest pain near Loch Leven on Paiute Pass Trail. The hiker was assisted by a Forest Service scientist, however needed a rescue since she was unable to walk any further due to the pain.
Inyo SAR assembled a team of 4 rescuers and drove to the North Lake parking lot. Two of them, a nurse, and a paramedic, quickly hiked oxygen and a medical kit over 1.75 miles to the patient, while the other two followed at a slower pace with the litter.
After a thorough field assessment of the patient, she was put into the litter and carefully wheeled down the trail and through two creek crossings. Upon reaching the trailhead, patient care was transferred to Reach Ambulance, who transported the patient to Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop.
We wish the patient a speedy recovery and would like to thank the Forest Service for their competent help with this rescue.
