Search and Rescue in Bass Lake
August 8, 2023 – Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report that last week, the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a search and rescue call reporting a broken ankle at the Falls in Bass Lake.
MCSO Boat Patrol Deputies Smith and Gonzalez were first on scene, where they located a 42-year-old female laying her back on the rocks just above the falls in the Willow Creek area. They learned she had gone down the slide at the falls a few times, and while climbing back up on the rocks, lost her footing and slipped, resulting in a broken ankle.
With the assistance of MCSO Boat Patrol, Patrol Deputies, SAR teams, USFS, Fire and EMS, she was safely secured in a rescue litter and taken by boat to Bass Lake Water Sports, where she was turned over to EMS for transport to a regional hospital.
