August 15, 2023 - Fresno Police Department officials report that shortly after midnight on Monday, August 14, 2023, officers from the Southwest Policing District responded to 235 West Hawes Avenue for a report of a shooting victim. Officers arrived within minutes and located a 41-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Lifesaving measures were performed by officers and EMS personnel, however the victim was unable to survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Nathaniel Ricks.

Homicide detectives arrived and began their investigation. At the time of this update, detectives have determined that a physical disturbance took place inside the residence just prior to the shooting. Detectives are working with family and witnesses to determine the identity of the suspect.

This is the 24th murder of 2023. This time last year, we had 36 murders.
