TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 33, 99 & 152 

August 18, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 33 (SR-33), SR-59, SR-99, and caltrans logoSR-152 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows;

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through December 30, 2023.

           o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 33

  • One-way traffic control from 500 ft. north of SR-152 West to 500 ft. south of SR-152 West for construction beginning Sunday, August 20, to Friday, August 25, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. STATE ROUTE 59
  • One-way traffic control from Jefferson Road to Rahilly Road for paving work beginning Monday, August 21, to Friday, August 25, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Full on-ramp closure on eastbound SR-152 at the SR-33 eastbound on-ramp for construction work beginning Monday, August 21, through Friday, August 25, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5- 10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
