August 20, 2023 - Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report that the Madera County Office of Emergency Services is continuing to monitor storm predictions for Hurricane Hillary, which has been downgraded to a Category 2 as of 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
There is a potential for wind gusts and downed trees during this weather event. Strong winds can pick up quickly and cause considerable damage. Monitor conditions and be aware of your surroundings.
There remains a slight risk of excessive rainfall Sunday night through Monday morning. We would like to remind residents that officials are in the field frequently monitoring conditions, however, if you feel threatened, don’t wait for an evacuation notification to leave. Begin preparations now if you live in an area that may be at risk for mudslides and/or debris flow.
