August 22, 2023 - Modesto, California – Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department officials report on Monday 8/21/23 at 3:20 PM, detectives from the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit scsd822.1(MCU) arrested Johnathan McClure,45, of Modesto for sexual acts with an inmate.

McClure has been employed as a custodial deputy with Stanislaus County for 22 years.

On the morning of 8/12/23, sheriff’s officials were made aware of a possible inappropriate relationship between McClure and an inmate who was in custody in Stanislaus County.  Upon learning this, a criminal and internal administrative investigation was launched.  That afternoon, a criminal search warrant was served at McClure’s Modesto home where evidence was seized.  By late afternoon of 08/12/23 McClure was placed on paid administrative leave and his access to Sheriff’s Office facilities was revoked.

Detectives continued to work on the case, which resulted in the arrest.  The Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office has been working with MCU detectives on the criminal investigation.  McClure posted bail on Monday evening and was released from custody, however, he remains on paid administrative leave.  Both the criminal and internal administrative investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact detective M. Wyatt at 209-525-7091.
