August 24, 2023 – Merced – Merced Police Department officials report that on August 23, 2023 at approximately 12:50 P.M., Merced Police Officers located a man wanted for attempted homicide. He was arrested in possession of a firearm and narcotics for sale.
On July 3, 2023, near midnight, Merced Police Officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of K Street for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located two people struck by gunfire. The two people were flown to a Modesto hospital where they were treated and released several days later. Officer Centeno with the Gang Violence Suppression Unit was assigned the case and he was able to identify Brandon Heberline (39) as the shooting suspect.
On August 23, 2023, Officer Centeno received information that Heberline was in the City of Merced at a family members home. Officers conducted surveillance and they were able to identify Heberline leaving a home in the 1200 block of South Highway 59. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of Dickenson Ferry Road.
The officers were able to arrest Heberline for his attempted homicide warrant. Heberline was found to be in possession of a loaded 410 Handgun, and several baggies of methamphetamine. Heberline was booked into Merced County Jail for his warrant, as well as firearm and narcotic related charges.
