Artist Erica Wolfsen Invites Public to Provide Input on Public Art

August 27, 2023 - The Mariposa County Planning Department, supported by the Mariposa County Arts Council, invites the public to submit feedback for a new MAC Erica Wolfsencreative placemaking project, Working Lands, Working Artists.

Working Lands, Working Artists is funded by a National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant and engages local artists in the design and installation of public art/creative placemaking projects exploring our community's relationship with agriculture and working landscapes. Moreover, this project is intended to support Mariposa County Planning Department’s Agriculture and Working Lands Conservation Plan (AWLCP) and aligns with the adopted Mariposa County Creative Placemaking Strategy

Specifically, three local artists have been selected to develop and install three different public art projects that respond to the community input collected during the AWLCP initial stakeholder engagement process. The selected artists are currently refining their designs and request the help of the public in this effort. Over the course of this fall, the Arts Council will host individual online surveys for each artists’ designs whereby the public can review and offer constructive feedback to help refine concepts in preparation for the final design stage. The online surveys will also be coordinated with in-person engagement for each piece, providing a range of opportunities to share their thoughts.

The first project opening up for public input is a series of murals designed by Mariposa County District 2 artist, Erica Wolfsen, proposed for the Coulterville County Park. This survey will open for public review/comment on August 24, 2023, and close on September 10, 2023. The survey builds on earlier in-person engagement work conducted by the artist at Banderita Days in June 2023. More information about this project and the online survey can be found at www.mariposaartscouncil.org/working-artists.

More information and online surveys will be forthcoming for the additional two projects.

The Arts Council, is an incorporated not-for-profit organization, created to promote and support all forms of the cultural arts, for all ages, throughout Mariposa County and is supported in part by the County of Mariposa, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the California Arts Council, a state agency.
