August 27, 2023 - Currently, 81 large wildfires have burned 645,789 acres in 15 states. Three new large wildfires were reported yesterday, two in Louisiana and one in Oregon. More than 20,141 wildland firefighters and support personnel are working on large incidents. Year to date, 38,398 wildfires have burned over 1.9 million acres.
The potential for wildfire activity continues in parts of the Northwest and several southeastern states. Wildland firefighters need your help to prevent wildfires. Know before you go! Check for area and road closures and do your part to prevent human-caused wildfires. Pay attention to fire restrictions, and monitor smoke advisories. Always #RecreateResponsibly!

Above normal temperatures with minimum relative humidity of 15-35% will continue near and west of the Cascades in northwest California, Oregon, and Washington, with locally breezy west winds in the Coast Range. Above normal temperatures will continue into the northern Great Basin, Inland Northwest, and northern Rockies as well. Isolated to scattered mixed wet/dry thunderstorms will develop across northeast Oregon into southern Idaho, southern Montana, and Wyoming. Scattered monsoonal thunderstorms will continue over New Mexico and Colorado, with isolated thunderstorms over the higher terrain of eastern Arizona into southeast Utah. Much of western Arizona, the southern Great Basin, and southern California will be hot and dry with temperatures exceeding 105oF. Scattered thunderstorms will develop from central Texas into the Deep South with small rainfall footprints and strong outflow winds due to continued hot temperatures. Widespread thunderstorms are likely across northeast Georgia into the Carolinas providing more significant relief. Near to below normal temperatures are expected across the northern Plains, Great Lakes, and Northeast.
