Cooler temperatures are forecast west of the Cascades today, but well above normal temperatures are forecast for the Inland Northwest, much of northern California, Great Basin, and northern Rockies. Breezy westerly winds are likely in the Cascade Gaps as well. Isolated to scattered wet thunderstorms will develop across much of the Rockies, mainly east of the Divide, and into south and west Texas. Scattered wet thunderstorms are likely to develop over western Washington tonight as well. Much of western Arizona, the southern Great Basin, and southern California will be hot and dry with temperatures exceeding 105oF. A cold front will bring scattered to widespread thunderstorms from the mouth of the Mississippi River into much of Alabama and the Southeast. However, cooler but breezy and dry northerly winds are likely in much of central and east Texas into Louisiana behind the front. Near to below normal temperatures will continue across the northern Plains, Great Lakes, and Northeast. Cool and showery conditions will continue for much of Alaska except for well above normal temperatures in the panhandle.
