Tropical Storm Idalia will move offshore the coastal Carolinas, but heavy rain and tropical storm winds remain likely along coastal North Carolina. Scattered thunderstorms are expected across much of Florida into the Deep South and central Gulf Coast. However, away from Idalia in the Lower Mississippi Valley and east Texas, dry and breezy conditions will continue. Dry and breezy conditions may also develop across portions of Virginia to the north of Idalia. Stronger east-northeast trade winds are likely on lee sides of the Hawaiian Islands leading to elevated and locally critical fire weather conditions. An upper low will slide southeast into the Northwest bringing cooler temperatures and scattered to widespread showers along and west of the Cascades, while isolated to scattered showers are likely across the Inland Northwest. Isolated thunderstorms are possible from far northern California into southern Oregon as well. Dry and breezy conditions are expected on eastern slopes of the Sierra through much of Nevada and across portions of the western Colorado, Wyoming, and eastern Montana. Isolated to scattered mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are likely across much of Arizona and Utah into western Colorado, western and northern New Mexico, southeast California, and southern Nevada. Gusty Chinook winds are likely in parts of the southern Interior, but showers will spread from western and southern Alaska into portions of the Interior overnight.
