TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 33, 99, 152 & 165 

September 2, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 33 (SR-caltrans logo33), SR-99, SR-152, and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through December 30, 2023.

           o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 33

  • One-way traffic control from 500ft north of SR-152 West to 500ft south of SR-152 West for construction beginning Tuesday, September 5, to Friday, September 8, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 Childs Avenue on-ramp for construction through September 17, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 G Street Under-Crossing on-ramp for construction through November 30, 2023.

  • Full on and off connector ramp closures on eastbound SR-152 at SR-33 for construction work beginning Tuesday, September 5, through Friday, September 8, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

State Route 165

  • One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to San Joaquin River Bridge for paving work beginning Tuesday, September 5, through Friday, September 8, 2023, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5- 10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
