September 6, 2023 - Placer County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on August 30th, Placer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a hospital in Auburn for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon that had occurred on Lincoln Way. The victim had been taken into surgery for sustaining a traumatic brain injury.
During the investigation, detectives learned the victim had been struck multiple times in the head with a metal pipe. They also learned the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Richard Paz of Grass Valley, had threatened to kill the victim during the assault.
Detectives located the weapon used to assault the victim near the scene of the incident and as the investigation continued, detectives contacted the defense attorney for Paz and advised he turn himself into the Auburn Jail. Paz was subsequently arrested for attempted first-degree murder. We thank the diligent efforts made by our deputies and detectives that night to take Paz into custody.
