September 6, 2023 - Tuolumne County District Attorney Cassandra Jenecke announced on Tuesday that no charges will be filed against the deputies involved in the officer-involved shooting of Richard Martin Councilman, Jr., on May 26, 2020, in Jamestown, California.

The Tuolumne County District Attorney's Office carefully and thoroughly evaluates instances of officer-involved shootings to ensure that our peace officers use force consistent with the law and their agency's policies.

Penal Code section 835a(a)(3) recognizes:

                      [T]hat the decision by a peace officer to use force shall be evaluated carefully and thoroughly, in a manner that reflects the gravity of that authority and the serious consequences of the use of force by peace officers, in order to ensure that officers use force consistent with law and agency policies.
