A-Cause-4-Paws, a local thrift shop, is preparing for their 6th annual Zombie Walk. Approximately 100 kids and adults will dress up as “The Walking Dead” and help build an animal shelter for our local SPCA.
On Saturday, October 17th, they will leave the thrift shop at 5:30 p.m. and walk (or shuffle) uptown to Vons Shopping Center, across to Raley’s Shopping Center and back to the Thrift Store. They will chant, moan and generally scare passersby and shoppers who they encounter on their walk.
When they return to the thrift shop, all of the walkers are treated to the Undead After Party. The entertainment includes a DJ, food and drinks. For kids, there will be a scary Haunted Walk which includes Zombie clowns and Zombie pirates. There will be a cash prize for the BEST ZOMBIE costume and multiple raffles.
This year, several sponsoring businesses have pledged a percentage (20%-25%) of their sales on special “Zombie” days to this effort. And, these sponsors will have coupons and special promotional items for the Zombies to enjoy. These businesses will be recognized throughout the Party:

- DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant
- Raley’s Supermarket
- EMADCO
- All Automotive
- Vic and Ruth Bladel
The requested donation is $5 for every participant and chaperone. That includes the walk and entrance to the Party. Also, as they walk, the zombies collect donations for EMCSPCA from passersby, businesses and motorists. During the prior Walks, the zombies collected a total of $5,000 for this worthwhile non-profit organization.
The thrift shop is locally known as a cat rescue and they have found homes for more than 500 abandoned cats and kittens. They also donate a $500 scholarship each year called the “Future Veterinarian Award”.
